Losing the Fear
The air was electric and the crowd echoed through the stadium. Feeling the entertainment hungry eyes on their backs, the Eagles knew they had to win.
The team faced off against Cypress Ranch High School, a team whose defense and offense went undefeated in last year’s district playoff games. This was the game to go to.
Devon Hayward, sophomore, came into the game with a pressing hope that Friday night would stop the winning drought. Hayward plays varsity defense, and can be found leaving an unlucky wide receiver fully guarded. However, coming into a game like this, the stakes were high as this was affecting the seasonal record, and they were protecting their reputation.
Hayward says, “We couldn’t score because Cy-Ranch played hard and their defense stopped us.”
Before the game was over, Cypress Ranch had scored, and once again, broken the defensive line. “I felt a little disappointed but I know we have to fight harder, practice harder and play harder in order to change the outcome”, said Hayward. Even though the Eagles took a heartbreaking loss, they are keeping their heads high.
The final score was 26 to 7, Cypress Ranch.
