Trump’s New Deportation Quota

Trumps motto of “Build the wall” and deportation has been the topic of discussion around school since his campaign season, but now he’s finally making progress. The trump administration is starting to impose quotas on immigration judges to speed up the process.

“Diversity is what makes America great, and without immigrants we wouldn’t have as much diversity,” Samantha Zumwalt (11) said. “Immigrants are dreamers just like us and they deserve their fair shot.”

Each judge will now have to clear at least 700 immigration court cases to be considered satisfactory. Seven hundred might seem like a huge number, but the number came about because some judges were in the 600 range with cases and others were way over 1000 which resulted in a median of 700. This quota is designed to speed up the immigration process.

According to Washington Post, “some immigrants facing deportation wait years for a court date, but they are typically authorized to work in the United States to support themselves during that time, an arrangement that critics view as an incentive to illegal immigration.”

Since a quota for any other type of judge has never been set before, some unions are calling this unprecedented and think it will cause many problems later on. Some court cases take months, years, or even just a week, but according to law all should be given a fair trial.

“There are people in this country who have came here for the very reason the first European people came, which is freedom,” Jacquelyn Amaya (12) said. “If we can have freedom why can’t they have freedom.”

At this moment, immigration is setback by over 600,000 cases for the Executive Office for Immigration Review. In response, the Trump administration is looking to hire more immigration judges. This quota will start as soon as possible.

“Sending all those people back will not make the economy better, it’s only going to make it lower,” Amaya (12) said. “There is going to be plenty of jobs, but no people to work those jobs. It’s going to be a complete disaster.”
