The Streak Continues

The Eagles extended their winning streak to four in a row with a dominating 55-0 victory over the Northbrook Raiders on Friday night at Tully Stadium. The Eagles scored 48 points in the first half alone and shut down the Raiders offense all game long. The Eagles’ offense almost had 500 yards in total at the end of the game and punted zero times. For the third time this year, rain delayed the start to the game by about 20 minutes, but it didn’t stop the Eagles from scoring early.

Halfway through the first quarter, the Eagles made progress towards their opponents end zone. Quarterback, TJ Goodwin, handed the ball off to running back Koby Leavatts at the 27 yard line and Leavatts found a hole in the defense.  He ran it all 27 yards to start the scoring on the night making it 7-0. It was the first of many touchdowns to come.

While it was the only touchdown on the night for Leavatts, he compiled 186 yards rushing on ten carries. He was the first of four different players to rush for a touchdown.

Goodwin rushed for an 8 yard touchdown with six minutes to go until halftime and added to the Eagles lead.

Goodwin completed four of six passes to his receivers in an abbreviated outing, including two touchdown passes. Wide receiver Semaj Trahan, caught a 40-yard pass for a score and Jyrese Hanchett, caught a 14-yard pass to cap off the first half. The score at halftime was 48-0.

The Eagles would only add one more touchdown after halftime and it was the defense who extended the lead. The defense forced a fumble and defensive back, Manuel Olivares, picked it up and scored the touchdown. The scoop and score made it 55-0 in the fourth and final quarter, but it wasn’t the only time that a unit other than the offense scored.

Earlier in the first quarter, Lucas Biagas scored on special teams when he picked up a blocked punt. The Eagles head coach, Christopher Brister, was delighted with his team’s big win.

“We are very happy to be 4-0, but still have work to do,” Coach Brister said.  “There were lots of positives coming out of the Northbrook game. We got to evaluate a lot of kids on film.  Everyone was able to play, and everyone performed well.”

The Eagles will take on the Memorial Mustangs at Pridgeon Stadium on Thursday, September 27 at 7 p.m.  It has been designated as the White Out game and all fans are encouraged to wear white.
