Comeback Season
September 28, 2018
After losing to Cy-Creek in their first district game of the season, our Lady Eagles beat the Cougars in four sets with the scores of 29-27, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23.
The first set began with an easy-going, laid-back attitude. The girls racked up points comfortably, and secured themselves an early three point lead. On both ends of the net, outside hitter, Cheyenne King (12), and right side hitter, Demi Lacy (12), swung their hardest into Creek.
Towards the end of the set, the Cougars picked up their speed, making it tough for the Eagle’s to finish as easily as they started. The set went into overtime, and a wave of anxiousness blew over the team as they tried to finish the set. A hitting error from the Cougars gave the win.
Excited from the win of the first set, the team started out the second with a three point lead again. Right side hitter, Morgan Adedunye (10) subbed in and made a gigantic difference in the team’s dynamic, drilling her hits firmly into the Cougars.
Adedunye and middle blocker, Laila Collins (10) moved swiftly across the net, making Creek’s hitting attempts to be ineffective. Unfortunately, the Eagle’s lost their lead late, and lost the set by two points.
Taking leads early was a reoccuring theme, that night, as the girls began with five points to Creek’s zero. Adedunye didn’t let up on the intensity of her swings while King kept the bench alive in energy.
Towards the middle of the set though, the team began to falter, each making small, but fixable mistakes. An ace from libero, Morgan Nix (11) sparked confidence into the girls.
The whole front row continued to rip down on Creek, trying to find a fault in their defense. The energy on the court, on the bench, and in the stands was almost tangible as the Eagle’s finished out the set.
In the fourth and final set, the Eagle’s wasted no time in diving straight into the game. Collins racked up points, not by her powerful swing, but with small, smartly-placed tips into Creek’s defense. Though the team let Creek progress in points a little, it was nothing compared to Falls’ desire to win. Match point came from Adedunye’s cannon for an arm, lighting the gym on fire.
The Lady Eagles’ next game is at 5:30 p.m. against Northbrook at home.
