The Eagles beat the Cy-Fair Bobcats 14-7 at Pridgeon Stadium on a Thursday night matchup that made history. Coming into the night, Cy-Fair was on a 19-game winning streak going back to 2016.

Both defenses came out strong allowing zero points to both offenses. The Eagles and Bobcats traded three-and-outs and there was no score at the end of one quarter of play.

On average, the first team to score a touchdown in the game has a 67% chance of winning, and the Eagles were the first to strike. Eagles’ Quarterback TJ Goodwin connected with receiver Jyrese Hanchett in the end zone for the touchdown. For the first time of the night, the Eagles were on the board 6-0 with 8:21 to go in the second quarter.

The rest of the quarter was again dominated by both defenses holding the score at 6-0 at the halftime break.

After halftime, the Eagles offense was quiet and couldn’t muster any points. The Bobcats’ offense drove down the field and moved into scoring position. The Bobcats were able to move the ball to the one yard line and scored on a quarterback keeper. The score with 11 seconds to go in the third quarter was 7-6.

The fourth quarter started with lots of noise from the packed stands. Late in the fourth with a little over four minutes to go, the Eagles got the ball at the Bobcat 49-yard line. The Eagles offense was not going to let the good field position get away from them. A gain of 34 yards by the Eagles’ running back Koby Leavatts put the Eagles at the one yard line. The Eagles needed to score and with 4:04 to go in the fourth quarter they got exactly what they needed. QB Goodwin leaped in the end zone on the quarterback sneak and the Eagles took the lead. To top it off, the Eagles went for the two point conversion and were successful making the score 14-7.

The Bobcats had four minutes to try and force overtime, but they came up short with a great stop from the Eagle defense. The Eagles defeated the former state champions and are the only team thus far to beat Cy-Fair since September 22, 2016 when Cy Ranch beat them 24-17. The Eagles are now first place in the district and the only undefeated team left after Thursday’s victory.

The Eagles have a bye week upcoming, but they will be back in action against Jersey Village on Friday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Pridgeon Stadium.
