Eco Fair

On Friday, the Cy Falls seniors in Economics participated in Eco Fair where they were finally able to sell the products that they have been working on. There was anything from pop tart pillows to small aquariums.

“I am really excited about eco,” Amaya Edwards (12) said. “Everyone has really interesting products. You get to walk around and see what you’re really interested in and how you’re gonna buy it.”

The students who participated in Eco Fair spent the first two periods setting up their table making it as eye catching as possible. Next, the seniors that are in Government this semester came and purchased the merchandise.

“I think this year the products are a little bit higher quality, the commercials were good,” Mr. Dyce McCulloch, an Economics teacher at Cy Falls said. “But the best thing about it was that everybody knew the rules, played by the rules, cause it’s an important thing. We’re lucky, we’re one of the few high schools that actually gets to do Eco Fair.”

Students have been preparing for this day for months. Getting products approved, making commutes so that the group could work on the project.

“I learned that it takes a lot of time and dedication to build one product,” Yasmin Torres (12) said. “It takes teamwork to, like, get each other to do each other’s part and like, you know, help each other.”

In addition to gaining character building qualities, there is a functional purpose behind it too.

“The purpose of Eco Fair is to teach students how to set up and run a business,” Mrs. Kathleen Vargas, an Economics teacher said. “Through this process, students come up with a product, produce it, advertise it, and then sell it. Last, we analyze profits to look at business success rates.”
