On January 19, 2019, women and men marched in Downtown Houston for women’s rights. This is the third consecutive women’s march since the first one started in 2017 after the presidential inauguration.

The Houston Women’s March is a 501c3 independent Texas nonprofit. In other words, it in not affiliated with the National Women’s March Inc. They focus on anti-semitism, racism, agendas of hatred and justice. The word justice was the heart of their slogan, “We have only just begun, this year we march for justice for all,” for the 2019 march.

The Houston Women’s March started gathering at 8:00 a.m. Saturday in Buffalo Bayou Park. There were speeches, food trucks, music and merchandise for sale.

At 10:00, the peaceful protestors started marching to City Hall and arrived around 10:30 to finally rally.

During this rally, many female politicians in the Houston area took the stand to talk about the process of getting far in their career field as a woman, including their challenges and the progress women have made in society. As a closing statement, they were sure to inform that the equality is not yet here and society has a few more steps to go.

Mid rally, dancers known as the Six Degree Dancers came on stage to perform wearing cloaks that they later removed to expose their feminist outfits, including a #MeToo dress and a “no more Nazi coat.”

The March ended at 12 noon as protesters had a moment of silence for the people who couldn’t make it because they are no longer here.
