The presidential election is coming up in 2020, and there are many candidates who filed to run for office in the last couple of months. These are the candidates:
Cory Booker (D)- Booker is a part of the Democratic Party, and he is the junior United States Senator from New Jersey since 2013. His campaign is focused on unity and by addressing inequality with racial discrimination.
Pete Buttigieg (D)- Buttigieg is a part of the Democratic Party, and is the mayor for South Bend, Indiana. His campaign is focused on the global economy by investing in technology, data and higher education.
Julian Castro (D)- Castro is a part of the Democratic Party, and he served as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development during Obama’s term. His campaign is based on promoting medicare for all and housing affordability and improving education.
John Delaney (D)- Delaney is a part of the Democratic Party, and is a former member of the House of Representatives. His motto is to “focus on the future” and wants to address issues related to globalization. He also promised to only work on bipartisan his first 100 days in office as president.
Tulsi Gabbard (D)- Gabbard is a part of the Democratic Party, and is a member of the House of Representatives from Hawaii. She is focused on foreign policy and the military.
Kirsten Gillibrand (D)- Gillibrand is a part of the Democratic Party and is a member of the Senate from New York. Her campaign is focused on economic and social issues, like sexual assault in the military, healthcare for 9/11 first responders, and medicare for everyone.
Kamala Harris (D)- Harris is a part of the Democratic Party and a member of the Senate from California. Her campaign is focused on economic issues, free college, universal pre-K, debt free college, medicare for all, and a tax cut for working and middle class families.
John Hickenlooper (D)- Hickenlooper is a part of the Democratic Party and is the former governor of Colorado. He’s said that he wants to work on expanding medicaid in the state, and push through the gun control legislation.
Jay Inslee (D)- Inslee is the Democratic governor of Washington. He is very big on climate change, and focusing on saving energy.
Amy Klobuchar (D)- Klobuchar is a Democratic member of the Senate from Minnesota. She is focused on climate change, economic issues, and income inequality.
Wayne Messam (D)- Messam is a part of the Democratic Party, and is the mayor of Miramar, Florida. The focus of his campaign is that he is trying to cancel $1.5 trillion in student debt.
Beto O’Rourke (D)- O’Rourke is a part of the Democratic Party and used to be a U.S. Representative from Texas. He recently ran for the U.S. Senate against Ted Cruz, he lost by 2 percentage points. His campaign will mainly be about universal healthcare, combating climate change, and rewriting immigration laws.
Bernie Sanders (I)- Sanders is a independent member of the Senate from Vermont. He is focused on economic issues, medicare for all, a $15 minimum wage, tuition free college, and the Green New Deal.
Donald Trump (R) – Trump is currently the president of the United States. He is a part of the Republican Party, and he filed for re-election the day he assumed office.
Elizabeth Warren (D)- Warren is a Democratic member of the Senate from Massachusetts. Her campaign is focused on economic issues, medicare for all, the Green New Deal, student loan debt relief, and proposing a wealth tax on the wealthiest 75,000 families to partially fund universal childcare.
Bill Weld (R) – Weld served as a Republican governor for Massachusetts in the 90’s. He said “the president is paying more attention to dividing people than addressing the problem of overspending or preparing to replace jobs that will be lost to automation in the near future.”
Marianne Williamson (D)- Williamson is a part of the Democratic Party, and her campaign is focused on Medicare for all, the Green New Deal, and $100 billion in reparations for slavery. She is also more focused on peace with the U.S. foreign policy.
