Eagles Dominate Mustangs In Season Opener

The Cypress Falls Eagles met the Aldine Mustangs at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium on Saturday evening to face off in a season-opening matchup for the second consecutive season. The Eagles earned a commanding victory, 55-6.
Mother nature generated a lightning delay of about an hour and forced excited fans to wait outside until pregame warmups could begin. By 7:07, kickoff was underway.
The Eagles came out strong on both ends of the ball early on and didn’t let their foot off the pedal. Quarterback Brandon Collins (12) threw three touchdowns on the night, two of them to wide receiver Ricky Johnson (12).
JP Martin (11) and Jaylan Walker (11), both running backs for the Eagles, rushed for two touchdowns each and averaged 9.5 yards per carry.
Wide receiver and safety Jayden Goodwin (12) proved that he could not only play well defensively, but also offensively. Goodwin picked off Aldine’s quarterback Johnny Toups (11) pass midway through the first quarter and returned it all the way down field for a pick six. Later, Goodwin caught a pass from Collins and spun around multiple defensive backs and into the endzone for another touchdown.
The combination of running and passing worked all night for the Eagles under the direction of Head Coach Chris Brister. A total of 510 yards from the Eagles offense tonight, with the combination of only two punts, proved to be too much for the Mustangs.
Defensive backs like Jay Vickers (12), Xavier Green (12), Jaylon Capuano (12) and Christian Cole (12) kept the Mustangs offense in check and shut them out through three quarters. Along with the defensive backs, the defensive line held the Mustangs to 67 yards on 34 attempts.
Despite the deficit, Aldine quarterback Johnny Toups connected with Draylon Haynes for a late touchdown to put the final score on the board.
The Eagles will take on Alief Hastings in game two of the season at Crump Stadium on September 6 at 7:00 p.m.
