Cypress Falls football players took one more step closer to their collegiate careers today when they signed with the colleges they’ve committed to over the past several months. 

Cale Burke, Jaylon Capuano, Brandon Collins, Jayden Goodwin, Xavier Green, Ricky Johnson, Dontrell Kelley, Brien Taylor, and Dillon Wade all signed with separate colleges and were visibly excited for their future and reminiscent of their past four years of high school. 

“These last four years I’ve met a lot of people who have supported me, but I’ve also met people who have doubted me and that’s something that has fueled me and motivated me to prove them wrong,” Cy Falls safety Jayden Goodwin, an Air Force Academy signee said. “In a way, it has helped me become a better person overall because I wanted to become a person that could relate to all types of people and get along with everyone.”

Safety Ricky Johnson, who signed with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, expressed that the hospitality during his visit made the difference when it came to the decision of where he wanted to attend. 

“The new coaching staff there is rock solid and I loved the official visit I took. It really felt like home. This recruiting class that we have there is really special,” Johnson said. When asked if there was anyone who supported him throughout his journey to UNLV, he gave a shout out to those who were by his side every step of the way. “Definitely. My family, my friends, and my coaches have supported me through this whole journey.”

Brandon Collins, the starting quarterback for the Eagles, said the moment was a big one for him and continued by saying the countless hours he had put into the game paid off and that he accomplished the goal he had from the beginning. 

“I’m looking forward to being a part of the atmosphere and great energy at Sam Houston State,” Collins said. “I am also looking forward to being close to home and my parents having the opportunity to come out and watch my games at the next level because of the constant support they have given me throughout all these years. I hope to have a positive impact on the football team and also the community by bringing leadership and character which my parents have instilled in me.”

Offensive lineman Dillon Wade, a future Golden Hurricane at the University of Tulsa, talked about how he wanted to be remembered for his leadership and how he wanted to leave an impression of future classes that attend the university.

“I can’t wait to get started,” Wade said. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime.”

 The nine athletes that signed today will take these lessons and memories with them as they move on to the next level of their goals and continue to represent their family here at Cy Falls from more than 1,437 miles away.
