President Trump announces that all U.S. financing to the World Health Organization will stop while a review into its handling of the Covid-19 virus is conducted. 

 

In Pennsylvania, the Senate moves towards reopening businesses if they meet certain CDC guidelines; however, Pennsylvania’s Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine disagrees. 

 

“I understand the legislature’s concern about the economy and desire to stimulate the economy but now is not the time,” Levine said. “It’s the time for people to stay home.”

In Europe, French President Emmanuel Macron pushes for a world truce amid the Covid-19 virus. Both the U.S. and China have already agreed to the truce, and President Macron is optimistic that Russia will too. 

 

In the U.S., unemployment continues to skyrocket, as a reported 22 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits.

The Small Business Administration has exhausted their $349 billion Paycheck Protection Program emergency loan fund, which allowed the government to help protect small businesses. Although not completely shut down, they will not be accepting new applicants until Congress approves additional funding.

 

President Trump reveals new guidelines meant to help states lower their restrictions on social distancing and help reopen the economy; however, it is up to the governors when and how to open their states economy.

Researchers from the Harvard Global Health Institute predict the U.S. must increase Covid-19 testing by more than three times if the U.S. wants to be able to reopen in the foreseeable future.

Monday, April 20, 2020

President Trump is reenacting the Defense Production Act in an effort to increase the number of cotton swabs needed for Covid-19 testing. This declaration comes shortly after he met with state governors over the weekend to discuss the reopening of the states. 

 

Tuesday, April 21, 2020

According to John Hopkins University, Covid-19 infected more than 2.5 million people and killed at least 176,000 worldwide. In the U.S., the death toll rises above 44,000. 

 

President Trump signs an executive order that will ban all immigration to the U.S. for up to 120 days. 

 

Air Canada suspends all flights to the U.S. until May 22 amid border restrictions.
