Moodboards, upcycling, embroidery, and cake don’t always go together, but at the first fashion club meeting of the year, these items all came together as discussions of the upcoming fashion show collided with the celebration of fashion teacher Tyranny Dugue’s birthday.

As they indulged in cake, President Brooke Ubieta (12), introduced concepts and explained the purpose of the organization to current and new members.

“Basically we’re here to be expressive and have fun while doing it,” Ubieta said

Brooke Ubieta has been a fashion design representative for about three years, balancing both fashion club and color guard recently nominated as president for this year’s fashion club, along with a vice president. When reviewing potential candidates, Dugue considered the students with the most integrity, qualification, and competence.

“I didn’t allow us to vote as a group because that can kind of lead more to popularity vs. ability,” Dugue said. “So I did choose the officers this year.”

The big event for the fashion club is the Spring Fashion Show. Each student in fashion design will create unique looks for their models, whereas the only requirement for modeling is confidence.

“We took a poll to see which members of the fashion club would be interested in being models for the fashion show, and surprisingly a lot of them were very interested,” Dugue said. “We’re also doing model auditions next month in October so if anyone else is interested in auditioning, I will put that on the announcements pretty soon.”

Dugue later revealed the theme, “Timeless,” where the students will pick a decade of their choosing from the 1930s to the 1990s to recreate. Advanced fashion designers will create about five to eight ensembles for each model. They also decided to pair up with cosmetology to assist with hair and makeup as well as culinary to help cater the food.

“I have eight presenters so we’re gonna have 40 models. We’re doing it in the auditorium. We’re going to have a full runway fashion show this year. It’s gonna be a pretty big event.”

Dugue hopes to work closely with the theater as far as lights, sound, and projection to help the event run as smoothly as possible. It is also expected to be an hour-long event, giving time for every fashion designer to shine.

“It’s my first fashion show, but this is not my first theatrical event. I have a degree in theater and I also did theater here at Cy Falls. My greatest hope for all my kids is that they just get their outfits done-and that they feel proud.”

Although, first day’s fashion club went successful, it hasn’t always gone as planned. Ms Dugue later admitted her first year as instructor of Fashion design (three years ago), the fashion club went slowly because she wasn’t as knowledgeable as she is now.

“I’ve learn that y’all are so creative and have these aspirations that are incredible compared to how  we were back in the day, like y’all already know exactly what y’all wanna do with your lives and there are so many programs here at this campus that it’s like you can get started your freshman or sophomore year.  I’ve learned that education has changed since I was here as a student- in a good way. I’ve learned I love teaching high school.”
