The Start of The Wrestling Season
November 22, 2021
The Cy Falls Wrestling team competed against one another to secure places in the Varsity and JV lineup for this upcoming season on Saturday 13 in the Lego Gym.
Challenge matches are held for wrestlers in the program to fight for placement in the weight class they would like to wrestle in. Each wrestler must compete against the other wrestlers near the same weight class (both a weight class lower and a weight class higher are fair game). These challenge matches will determine the Varsity and JuniorVarsity lineup for the following two weeks. After those two weeks are over, any wrestler that wasn’t really pleased with their performance and/or placement in the lineup may challenge the varsity wrestler at their weight class.
The Varsity lineup for the beginning of the season is as follows: Josiah Servin (11) – 106, Ethan Perez (9) – 113, Eli Pena (11) – 120lbs, Hunter Hutson (10) – 126lbs, Justin Tzunun (12) – 132lbs, Marcus Fermantez (11) – 138lbs, Jake McCutchen (12) – 145lbs, Noah Martinez (11) – 152lbs, Jesus Trujillo (12) – 160lbs, Demond Thomas (10) – 170lbs, Alexander Ebert (10) – 182lbs, Corbin Molina (12) – 195lbs, Javion Washington (12) – 220lbs, and Malik Burns (10) – Heavy weight.
In preparation for this 2021-2022 wrestling season, the wrestling team started practices in early August and morning lifts in September.. As the season starts, the Cy Falls wrestling team will host a quad duel at home on Saturday, November 20. The first quad of the season will have three other schools coming to compete including Clear Brook High School, Cinco Ranch High School, and Brazoswood High School.
Closely following their first duel of the season, Cy Falls will be hosting the Turkey Shoot Duel Tournament. The tournament will be held at Cy Falls in the early hours of Tuesday, November 23. Brazoswood High School will once again be participating and competing along with Friendswood High School, New Waverly High School, Clear Falls High School, The Woodlands High School, Bryan High School, Atascocita High School, Cy-Fair High School, and Leander Glenn High School.
These first events will be important for each wrestler as it will allow them to get a glance of the competition outside of the district as well as allow them to find mistakes to fix in following practices on their road to Districts.
